In the late 1980's a small group of Kiwanians discovered the need for a bone marrow transplant unit at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland Oregon. They raised some money and in 1990, started the Kiwanis Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. As technologies changed, we had to change also, and in 1998 became the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children's Cancer Program.
The Kiwanis Fellowship Program: We evaluated our mission, and felt that it was to help cure children of cancer, and there was no better way to do that than to help train the next generation of pediatric oncology specialists and researchers.
KDCCP is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. Our board of directors are all members of Kiwanis clubs from Oregon and Southwest Washington who serve without pay. Most of our volunteers are Kiwanians, however many are not.

We raise funds by selling raffle tickets on a new Ford Mustang, a stern-wheeler riverboat cruise, two bicycle rides, two golf tournaments, Christmas ornament sales, raffle sales for a beautiful gazebo, and donations by generous individuals and business partners. Our fundraising efforts support the Kiwanis Fellowship Program at OHSU/Doernbecher, where the best and brightest young physicians are invited to participate in an intensive three year program to become the next generation of pediatriac oncology specialists.
Our Annual Gift to Doernbecher Children's Hospital for 2010 - 2011 was $185,000.
